Celebrating Key Milestones in EssilorLuxottica’s Sustainability and Mission activities

To help people around the world ‘see more and be more’, EssilorLuxottica's Mission drives its strategy and activities. It is at the heart of the Company's values and principles and informs its integrated approach to sustainable development. Doing good for its employees, customers, consumers, and communities while doing good for the planet is at the core of its Company-wide sustainability program, ‘Eyes on the Planet’.

In 2024, EssilorLuxottica continued its sustainability journey with concrete actions worldwide, focusing on the environment, territories, communities and people.

On Carbon, the Company continues to scale up efforts for the production and purchase of renewable energy and is on track to reach carbon neutrality for its direct activities (Scope 1 & 2 emissions) by 2025. To achieve its commitments of Eyes on Carbon, actions on renewable energy were accelerated with the installation of 10 new photovoltaic systems in 2024. EssilorLuxottica also announced an innovative project near Pescara, Italy, to restore and repurpose 40 hectares of industrial land around its Barberini site, which includes a large solar farm for renewable energy. In 2024, EssilorLuxottica’s new carbon emission reduction targets have been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation acknowledges the Company’s long-term goal to reduce the carbon footprint in its operations and value chain.

On Circularity, the Group’s activities span from sourcing and researching new innovative materials, developing internal recycling processes, reducing input materials, to favoring eco-conscious designs and investing in new technologies. The Company is also implementing circular services to extend product life or give products a second life. In 2024, EssilorLuxottica introduced recycled demo lenses and launched an innovative project to recycle nylon scraps from injection molding into store furniture.

To reinforce its sustainability commitments across the organization, the Company held its third annual ‘EssilorLuxottica Sustainability Week’ in April 2024 on Earth Day, highlighting its efforts to reduce plastic usage. On World Oceans Day, the Group demonstrated its support through a dedicated campaign focused on safeguarding the planet’s resources and its oceans.

To accelerate World Sight, 2024 was a year of significant impact for the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation.

Most notably, the Foundation recently announced its collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global collaborating partner on the WHO’s SPECS 2030 initiatives.

The SPECS initiative builds on the world’s first-ever global target to increase effective refractive error coverage by 40% by 2030, which was endorsed by WHO Member States in 2021 at the World Health Assembly. This collaboration between WHO and the Foundation represents a significant step forward in addressing refractive error, preventing myopia, and improving access to vision care worldwide, particularly in low-resource settings.

Through the Foundation, the Company ramped up its Mission activities by sharing the importance of good vision and championing the vision care cause alongside major international events. This includes the United Nations General Assembly, the World Health Assembly, the G20 Summit, and through compelling media content. Foundation initiatives, such as Vision for All in India and Vula Amehlo in South Africa are setting new standards of providing access to eye care and transforming lives in underserved communities. Key partnerships with organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Special Olympics, and AidOcean are also expanding the Group’s reach to some of the most vulnerable and remote communities.

Recognizing its global impact, EssilorLuxottica earned a spot in Fortune magazine’s ‘Change the World’ list and was named a Champion of Good in Singapore.

In 2024, the Foundation celebrated a historic milestone: providing one million pairs of glasses to beneficiaries in Africa in just one year. This extraordinary achievement reflects the unwavering dedication, tireless efforts, and commitment of the Foundation's teams to transforming lives and unlocking potential through good vision.

EssilorLuxottica is continuing its commitment through the ‘Eyes on Art’ program to make art accessible for all by breaking down barriers. Latest projects in 2024 are with three key partners in France and Italy: Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, Musée Granet in Aix-En-Provence, Capitolare Library of Verona, Italy.

The initiatives and achievements in 2024 reflect a strong collaborative mindset across many of the Company’s different functions around the world. This ultimately aligns with EssilorLuxottica’s identity thanks to its open business model and Mission of helping people around the world ‘see more and be more.’
