New Game-Changing GEN S Lenses from Transitions
2 min

Transitions has entered an exciting new chapter with the launch of GEN S – a technological revolution that sets a new standard for prescription glasses.

A proprietary and patented technology backed by 30 years of photochromic expertise, the development of Transitions GEN S involved over five years of research from 120 dedicated scientists, who tested more than 100,000 lenses and created 450 different prototypes.

Transitions GEN S elevates the vision experience and look from a must wear to a ‘love wear’ experience with a lens that is ultra-responsive to light, stylish and smart. Its light management system finely balances, in true equilibrium, all parameters of visual performance, having the power to reframe prescription glasses, leaving static for dynamic.

GEN Speed for ultra-responsiveness to light, activating in seconds1 and fading back in less than two minutes2, Transitions GEN S is the fastest dark lens in the clear-to-dark photochromic category. In fact, when asked, 88% of wearers agreed that the lenses adapted so fast to light that they didn’t or barely noticed the change.3

GEN Style for a spectacular color palette, including the color ‘Ruby’ to give wearers the broadest color range for endless pairing possibilities. All colors have been optimized to be true to tone at all stages, offering vibrant tints in any light. Having a large choice of colors increased the purchase intent by 1.6 times in Europe and 1.8 in the US.4

GEN Smart for better vision quality, faster5 to ensure a continuous visual experience in harmony with varied and changing light environments. Thanks to its responsiveness to light, it provides 39% faster vision recovery from intense bright lights5(A) versus clear lenses. During fade back, tests have shown a 39.5% improvement in contrast sensitivity5(B)  and 40% faster vision recovery 5(B)  versus the previous generation.

Transitions GEN S lenses are now available in the US, Canada, France and Italy, with global launch rollout planned until Q2 of 2025.

1.For polycarbonate and CR39 lenses across colors achieving 18% transmission at 23°C.

Up to two times faster to fade back compared to the previous generation for grey polycarbonate and CR39 lenses fading back to 70% transmission at 23°C.

2. For grey lenses in the clear to dark (category 3) photochromic category.  Transitions GEN S lenses fade back faster to 70% transmission while achieving less than 14% transmission when activated at @ 23°C.

3. Wearers Test conducted by an external market research agency in the US in Q1, 2023 with 133 Rx lens wearers wearing 1.67 index lenses with a premium anti-reflective coating in grey Transitions GEN STM and Ray Ban frames.

4. Europe: Ipsos, Global Consumer Brand Tracking, (CAWI), Q3 2023, (UK, FR, IT) N= 3,000 Rx eyeglasses wearers - US: Ipsos, Global Consumer Brand Tracking, (CAWI), US, Q3 2023 N= 1,000 Rx eyeglasses wearers

5. Vision quality improved in challenging light conditions, notably when moving from a bright to a darker environment (source B, Transitions GEN S compared to Transitions Signature GEN 8), in bright to very bright light situations (source A, Transitions GEN S compared to clear lenses) and in low light with peaky stray light (source A, Transitions GEN S compared to clear lenses).
