The fourth annual EssilorLuxottica Sustainability Week is taking place from April 15-22, featuring live virtual events on Leonardo and hands-on climate workshops for employees — all designed to inspire action, highlight the impact of the Group’s sustainability initiatives and create engagement around the Earth Day 2025 theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet.’
At EssilorLuxottica, caring for our planet is a shared responsibility. Through its Eyes on the Planet program, and notably the ‘Eyes on Carbon’ pillar, the Group remains committed to minimizing environmental impact throughout the value chain.
EssilorLuxottica’s journey forward focuses on reducing and neutralizing the carbon footprint (Scopes 1 and 2 emissions) of its global direct operations by 2025, a target already achieved in Europe in 2023. It also involves enhancing energy efficiency in the Group’s facilities and increasing both its use and self-production of renewable energy as well as promoting the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems. In addition, the Company’ new emissions reduction targets across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 for 2030 were validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking a key milestone in its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its own operations, while also actively engaging key suppliers.
In alignment with Earth Day 2025, which aims to increase education on the importance of renewable energy, here are a few of EssilorLuxottica’s actions to date:
Since 2013, EssilorLuxottica has been self-producing renewable energy, starting with the installation of its first photovoltaic panel.
As of today, more than 100,000 photovoltaic panels have been installed in 36 sites across 17 countries.
In 2024, installed capacity increased significantly, with the addition of 38 MW bringing the Group’s total capacity to more than 51 MW — enough to supply energy to support more than 20,000 households.
Starting in 2025, these solar installations will enable EssilorLuxottica to prevent more than 30,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
As part of EssilorLuxottica Sustainability Week 2025, two special events focused on sustainability will take place on Leonardo, EssilorLuxottica's learning ecosystem, open to all employees and clients:
‘EssilorLuxottica Sustainability and Mission: 2024 Highlights’: On April 17, Elena Dimichino, Chief Corporate Sustainability Officer at EssilorLuxottica, alongside guest speaker Anurag Hans, Head of Mission and President of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, will showcase the ongoing achievements of the Group’s Eyes on the Planet program and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, while reinforcing the synergy between sustainability and its Mission.
‘Our Power, Our Planet: Driving Responsible Change’: On 22 April Earth Day 2025, Davide Schinetti, Chief Operating Officer at EssilorLuxottica, and Giorgio Visciglio, Renewable Energy Manager at EssilorLuxottica, will discuss the Group’s commitments to renewable energy, how it is reducing its environmental fuootprint and the results achieved so far.
Starting from last year, all EssilorLuxottica employees have been invited to take part in awareness workshops during Sustainability Week. These sessions, held throughout April and continuing over the year, introduce climate change and explore meaningful ways to take action—both individually and collectively.
This Earth Day and beyond, together let’s create a lasting impact and secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
